Francesco Cacciola
Il dott. Francesco Cacciola è Ricercatore a tempo determinato (art. 24 comma 3-b L. 240/10) nel Settore Scientifico Disciplinare CHIM/10 – Chimica degli Alimenti – a partire dal 30/12/2014 presso il Dipartimento di “Scienze biomediche, odontoiatriche e delle immagini morfologiche e funzionali“ dell’Università degli Studi di Messina. Nato a Messina nel dicembre 1980, ha conseguito il diploma di maturità scientifica presso il Liceo statale G. Seguenza (Messina) con la votazione di 100/100 e la laurea in Farmacia presso l’Università di Messina nell’ottobre del 2004 con voti 110/110 e lode discutendo una tesi sperimentale dal titolo: “MicroHPLC/ESI/MS per determinazione delle antocianine in vini rossi”. Nel 2005 e nel 2006 ha svolto attivitá di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Chimica Analitica della Facoltá di Tecnologia Chimica dell’Università di Pardubice (Repubblica ceca) nell’ambito del progetto internazionale della Comunitá Europea “Training Young Researchers in Miniaturized Comprehensive Liquid Chromatography” (Acronimo: “Com-Chrom”) (Call Identifier: IHP-RTN-00-2) per la ricerca e lo sviluppo tecnologico e della borsa di studio semestrale “Fondazione Bonino-Pulejo”. Nel dicembre 2005 si è abilitato alla professione di farmacista. Nel marzo 2009 ha conseguito il titolo di dottore di ricerca in “Chimica e Sicurezza degli Alimenti” (XXI ciclo) con dissertazione finale della tesi dal titolo: “Impiego di Metodiche HPLC ad alta risoluzione per l’analisi di matrici complesse”. Ha frequentato il corso di dottorato presso i laboratori del settore Analitico-Alimentare della Facoltà di Farmacia, coordinato dal Prof. Luigi Mondello, collaborando attivamente alla realizzazione dei progetti portati avanti dal gruppo di ricerca. Dal luglio 2009 al luglio 2010 è stato”Visiting Scientist” presso il Centro di Sicurezza degli Alimenti e Nutrizione Applicata (CFSAN, Food and Drug Administration) per condurre ricerche finalizzate alla caratterizzazione dei componenti bioattivi presenti in Stevia rebaudiana. Dal Febbraio 2011 al Gennaio 2012, ha usufruito di una borsa di studio erogata dalla Società Chromaleont s.r.l. A spin-off of the University of Messina, Via Industriale, 143, 98123 Messina, per approfondire gli studi sui polifenoli e sull’utilizzo di fasi stazionarie innovative. Lo svolgimento di tali ricerche, è stato effettuato presso il Dipartimento Farmaco-Chimico in accordo alla stipula della convenzione di Spin-off tra la succitata Società e il “The Mediterranean Separation Fundation Research and Training Center” afferente al Dipartimento Farmaco-Chimico dell’Università degli Studi di Messina. Dall’ A.A. 2005-06 ha svolto attività didattica sia per gli studenti della Facoltà di Farmacia che per quelli del corso di Chimica e Tecnologie Farmaceutiche in qualitá di esercitatore. Dal 06 Giugno 2011 fino al 05 Giugno 2014 è cultore della materia per il Settore Scientifico-Disciplinare CHIM/10 (Chimica degli Alimenti e dei Prodotti Dietetici) presso la Facoltà di Farmacia, Università degli Studi di Messina. Ha insegnato anche per l’ A.A. 2010-2011 per il MASTER UNIVERSITARIO di II LIVELLO in “BIOTECNOLOGIE AVANZATE PER LA SALUTE E LE SCIENZE DELLA VITA” in qualità di tutor (profilo: comprovata esperienza in tecniche analitiche avanzate con particolare riferimento ai prodotti di origine naturali ad impiego salutistico (20h)) presso la Facoltà di Medicina e Chirurgia, Università degli Studi di Messina. A partire dall’ A.A. 2012-2013, è docente presso CdL in Scienze gastronomiche, Università degli Studi di Messina, del seguente insegnamento: “Produzioni di qualità e salute” 2 CFU, C.I. “Aspetti salutistici della dieta mediterranea”. Negli A.A. 2012-2013 e 2013-2014, ha svolto attività didattica nell’ambito del CORSO DI PERZIONAMENTO IN NUTRACEUTICA (NUTRA-LiFE-HI), Programma Operativo Nazionale “Ricerca e Competitività 2007-2013” e nell’ambito del progetto Progetto PAN-LAB – PON a3_00166 – Progetto di potenziamento strutturale dei laboratori dell’Università di Messina per analisi degli alimenti, studio della loro incidenza sulla salute umana e consulenza tecnologica, giuridica ed economica alle azienda agroalimentari”. Nel giugno 2008 e nell’aprile 2009 è risultato vincitore di due borse di studio bandite, rispettivamente, dalla Società italiana di Chimica degli Alimenti in occasione del VII Congresso Nazionale di Chimica degli Alimenti (Perugia, 23-26 Giugno 2009) e dalla Società Americana Inc. HPLC in occasione del 34° Congresso Internazionale di HPLC 2009 (Dresden, 29 Giugno-2 Luglio 2009), che gli hanno permesso di di ampliare ed aggiornare la propria formazione culturale e scientifica. E’ stato anche insignito del Premio “Giovani Ricercatori 2008” bandito dall’ Università degli Studi di Messina per la macro area scientifico-tecnologica, in seguito alla valutazione della produzione scientifica dell’anno 2007.
Al 30 settembre 2015 è autore e co-autore di 55 articoli scientifici soggetti a “peer reviewing” di cui 51 articoli su riviste internazionali ISI, 5 capitoli di libri pubblicati da editori internazionali, 5 abstract in riviste e 3 contributi in atti di congresso. Autore e Co-autore inoltre di 65 comunicazioni orali di cui 35 su invito e 77 comunicazioni poster a conferenze e congressi nazionali ed internazionali.

I suoi interessi di ricerca riguardano la caratterizzazione di molecole bioattive contenute in alimenti e prodotti naturali mediante tecniche cromatografiche innovative, quali: tecniche accoppiate (LC-MS, LC-MS/MS), Comprehensive LC accoppiata alla spettrometria di massa (LC×LC-MS, LC×LC-MS/MS) e tecniche cromatografiche veloci (Fast-LC).
