Francesco Cacciola and Danilo Sciarrone, associate professors of Food Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry, respectively, were included in the list of the “Top 40 under 40” of the international magazine “The Analytical Scientist”. This recognition includes the 40 most influential names, worldwide, of scientists under the age of 40, in the field of Analytical Sciences. The names of the two professors from Messina are among the seven Italians, along with 12 other Europeans, 18 Americans and 3 Asians. The prestigious independent scientific magazine, brought together for the second time (first edition in 2014) a jury of highly qualified experts, to select the scientists “under 40” who with their research in different scientific fields have substantially contributed to the well-being of humanity. The Commission acknowledged the pioneering contribution of Messinian scholars to the development of multidimensional techniques for the identification of unknown molecules, especially in foods and natural products.
Almost all of the research was carried out in the Analytical-Food sector of the Department of Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences of the University of Messina, coordinated by Prof. Luigi Mondello and Paola Dugo.
Prof. Francesco Cacciola is a member of the SASTAS section of the Department of Biomedical, Dental and Morphological and Functional Images, while Prof. Danilo Sciarrone is from the Department of Chemical, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences of the University of Messina.
