Peter Tranchida
Prof. Dr. Peter Q. Tranchida currently occupies a position as Associate Professor in Food Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry, Biological, Pharmaceutical and Environmental Sciences (University of Messina, Italy), where he holds the courses “Food Chemistry and Dietary Products” (Master’s Degree in Pharmacy) and Non-Conventional Food Products (Master’s Degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition). He is currently Coordinator of the Master’s Degree Course in Food Science and Human Nutrition
He has co-authored over 170 scientific publications (h-index: 40; Scopus database – 03/2024) and given about 370 oral/poster presentations in national and international meetings. In 2012, at the”9th GC×GC symposium”, held in Riva del Garda, he was awarded the “John Phillips Award”, for his outstanding achievements in the field of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography. In 2019, at the “16th GC×GC symposium”, held in Fort Worth (Texas), he was awarded the “GC×GC Lifetime Achievement Award”. Prof. Tranchida is currently Associate Editor of Journal of Separation Science (Wiley), Advisory Editorial Board Member of Trends in Analytical Chemistry (Elsevier), and Editorial Board Member of Separations (MDPI).
His research activities are focused mainly on the study of complex food samples by using advanced chromatography processes, such as fast and very-fast gas chromatographic systems. Furthermore, he has been devoted to the evaluation of ultimate generation stationary phases (i.e., ionic liquids), and, in particular, in the development and application of classical multidimensional andcomprehensive two-dimensional chromatography systems. Specifically, he has performed a great deal of research work in the field of classical multidimensional gas chromatography, multidimensional liquid-gas chromatography, and comprehensive 2D gas chromatography (GC×GC). In terms of mass spectrometry systems, he currently uses rapid-scanning single quadrupole, triple quadrupole, and low- and high-resolution time-of-flight devices. In the field GC×GC, he has performed applications, method optimization studies, and introduced a new form of flow modulation.
